Go PLATINUM & ELITE 5X All at Once with SPG, Ritz-Carlton, Marriot, Delta and United!
Platinum & Elite 5X at Once with SPG, Ritz-Carlton, Marriott, Delta & UnitedFirst Class Upgrades on airlines and Complimentary Hotel Suites free of charge is usually reserved for the celebrities, but get yourself a new pair of shades because your future status is about to become very bright (minus the autographs).
In case you haven't heard Marriott & Ritz-Carlton recently merged with Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG). SPG and Ritz have long been two of my favorite hotel chains, I love the W Hotels for their contemporary and fun atmosphere & The Ritz-Carlton for their slope side ski lodges, amazing club rooms and customer service.
New Status OpportunitiesThe latest changes bring some incredible new opportunities not just with the hotels, but with their crossover rewards partners. Now when you link your SPG, Ritz and Marriot accounts (Link Accounts Here) any Elite Status you have with one hotel transfers to the same Elite Status with all of them! Once you obtain SPG Platinum Status you can sign up for automatic crossover rewards and elite status for booking Delta flights (SPG / Delta Crossover Link), then you can use your Marriott Platinum Status to get automatic United Elite Silver status (Marriott / United Status Link) for free first class upgrades and perks. So the goal is to hit Platinum with any one of the above hotel programs, link SPG, Ritz-Carlton and Marriott accounts to become Platinum across all three, then use your Platinum hotel status to become Elite on Delta and United!
Shortcut To PlatinumIn case you don't have any 50 day vacations planned in your near future (50 Nights required for Platinum Status), there is a "Platinum Challenge" you can register for. Simply call SPG and request to be registered (SPG Customer Service 1-888-625-4988), it's 100% free. They will register you for any quarterly period such as October to December. You now have 3 months to complete 18 nights. Once completed, your status will be upgraded within 5-7 business days of your 18th night stay. An October to December 2016 qualification gives you Platinum status through February 28th, 2018.
Should You Go For It?Depending on the amount you travel, the value of Platinum status on 1,100 hotels worldwide and Elite status on two major airlines can add up fast. If you have any existing vacations or business travel that will get you close to the 18 days and can see yourself taking advantage of any of the below benefits, VacationWise recommends a go.
It's not every day an opportunity like this comes up.
A suite upgrade and not having to check out until 4PM, even if only used a few times, can make all the difference on a stay. Throw in free breakfast, welcome gifts, bonus points, dedicated reservation lines and first class upgrades to your destination and you just might have to book a few extra trips next year.
